KCI employs a Manager, Assistant Manager(s), Lifeguards, Snack Bar Attendants, Kenilworth Swim Team Head Coach and Kenilworth Swim Team Assistant Coaches during the summer swimming season. We are currently not hiring any longer for the 2024 season. Please check back with us in early January, 2025, about employment opportunities.

Assistant Manager

The Assistant Manager (in the absence of the Manager) is the face of the Kenilworth Club to its members.  Candidates for Assistant Manager should be hard-working with a great work ethic.  The Assistant Manager treats the Kenilworth Club with a sense of ownership and advocates for improved operations, policies, and practices.  The Assistant Manager is expected to build and constantly maintain positive and productive working relationships with the Manager, the Board of Directors, the Swim Team Head Coach, and each member and stockholder.

Requirements

  • Current, valid certification in CPR, First Aid, and YMCA Life Saving or Red Cross Advanced Lifesaving or Water Safety Instructor or equivalent
  • Knowledge of all pool rules, equipment, and maintenance procedures
  • Age 18 or older
  • High school graduate and/or currently enrolled in college and in good standing
  • Able to work 40 hours per week during the active summer season
  • Must be willing to work during the months of May through August, including on weekends

Duties

Member Services

  • Greet arriving KCI members and guests 
  • Establish a friendly and visible management presence on the deck and throughout the entire facility, greeting and speaking to members, picking up trash, checking pool cleanliness and chemicals, monitoring and supporting Lifeguards and Snack Bar Attendants
  • Ensure that ONLY members and their guests are using the pool and instruct all employees to require member sign-in and payment of guest fees
  • Enforce KCI Pool Rules among employees, members, and guests 
  • Provide support to Kenilworth Club members for social activities and swim meets

Management

  • Supervise pool staff and ensure staff perform their assigned functions in a courteous and professional manner; maintain shift rotation and break schedules and checklists of duties for employees; Lifeguards should be easily recognizable as on duty or off duty
  • Maintain employee log books and paperwork for payroll and files
  • Train and coach Lifeguards and Snack Bar Attendants in their duties and oversee daily performance and productivity
  • Attend all Management Team Meetings and provide input for orientation and employee meetings

Facilities

  • Inspect the pool area thoroughly for cleanliness before opening in the morning and prior to meets and events
  • Check and maintain sufficient supply levels for snack bar, first aid, pools, restrooms, and tennis courts
  • Maintain the cleanliness and chemical integrity of the main and baby pools by checking and servicing pH and chlorine levels, backwash filters, chlorinator, pump baskets and skimmer baskets; removing leaves and debris from pool drain grates; vacuuming the main pool twice daily and baby pool once daily; and brushing the pools twice per week
  • Manage the maintenance of cleanliness of the club grounds, including the pools, bathhouses, parking lot, clubhouse, pump house, pavilion, picnic grounds, and tennis courts
    • Cleaning bath houses, clubhouse bathrooms, and clubhouse windows daily
    • Clean Adult Room daily, including mopping, clearing and cleaning table and counter tops, and emptying trash cans
    • Check snack bar at the end of the day to ensure that the Snack Bar Attendant has completed all clean-up tasks and food storage properly
    • Empty garbage cans into dumpster at least once daily and as often as needed
    • Keep decks free of litter and hose regularly
    • Pick up and store “lost and found” items and maintain the storage area
    • Reposition, tidy and/or move pool chairs, tables, and umbrellas
    • Maintain facility yard and flower beds, including picking up sticks and trash, watering the flower beds, and pulling weeds

  • Perform other duties as instructed by the Manager or Board of Directors

Lifeguard

Lifeguards ensure the safety of members and staff enjoying KCI facilities and support the Manager and Assistant Manager in maintenance and cleanliness duties.  Lifeguards should prepare to be alert during shifts and to make member safety a priority.  Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, great team players, and eager to support KCI Managers in creating an outstanding environment for members and staff.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 15 years old
  • Current, valid Red Cross Advanced Life Saving Certificate, Water Safety Instructor or YMCA Life Saving Certificate, First Aid, and CPR prior to beginning employment date
  • Proper equipment, including a whistle and KCI-furnished lifeguard shirt and red swim suit
  • Kenilworth Swim Team participation/enrollment

Duties

  • Ensure the safety of swimmers, club users, and all staff members working
  • Attend lifeguard trainings and staff meetings
  • Check and follow the KCI lifeguard work schedule, finding lifeguard replacements promptly if necessary, notifying Manager or Assistant Manager of shift changes, remaining at the facility until replacement reports to work, and arriving to work on time and prepared
  • Follow and enforce KCI Pool Rules and safety procedures at all times
  • While on duty:
    • Perform Lifeguard safety duties 
    • Be alert and aware
    • Store personal belongings, including cell phones, in staff break room lockers  
    • The following are prohibited on duty: visiting with other employees or guests; personal phone calls, texts, and app use; use of KCI recreational equipment
  • While at reception:
    • Greet KCI members and guests upon arrival 
    • Introduce yourself and ask for member information, complete sign-in, and collect and secure guest fees
    • Report guest issues to the Manager or Assistant Manager
  • Support the Manager and Assistant Manager in maintaining the cleanliness of the club grounds, including the pools, bathhouses, parking lot, clubhouse, pump house, pavilion, picnic grounds, and tennis courts
    • Clean bath houses, clubhouse bathrooms, and clubhouse windows daily
    • Clean Adult Room daily, including mopping, clearing and cleaning table and counter tops, and emptying trash cans

  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the Manager and/or Assistant Manager
Snack Bar Attendant

Snack Bar Attendants offer a friendly face to members and guests who visit the KCI Snack Bar and provide high-quality service and prompt fulfillment of orders.  Snack Bar Attendants play a valuable part in maintaining cleanliness of the snack bar area and adequate supply levels of refreshments; receive, secure, and record snack bar revenue; and provide recommendations to the Manager based on customer feedback.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 14 years old*
  • Knowledge of and compliance with KCI Pool Rules
  • Trustworthiness for money handling
  • Knowledge (or willingness to learn) how to operate a cash register and provide exact change
  • Ability to monitor inventory and communicate with Manager and Assistant Manager to ensure adequate supply

Duties

  • Prepare and serve refreshments for members in a prompt and courteous manner
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary snack bar at all times; work subject to daily inspection by manager on duty
  • Protect refreshments and funds from theft by Kenilworth Club employees, members, and guests
  • Monitor food and drink supply levels and notify the manager of supply needs
  • Support the Manager and Assistant Manager in maintaining the cleanliness of facilities by performing clean-up duties such as picking up trash, taking out garbage, mopping the clubhouse and snack bar, and cleaning and sanitizing dishes
  • Limit access to the snack bar (Members and guests under age 14 are not allowed in the snack bar area!)

 

Kenilworth Swim Team Head Coach

The Head Coach establishes and executes the vision for the Kenilworth Swim Team and coordinates all the activities of the Kenilworth Swim Team; guides and supervises the work of the Senior Assistant Coaches, Junior Assistant Coaches and meet volunteers; and builds positive working relationships with the KCI Manager, Board, and parents. The ideal KST Head Coach loves swimming; is passionate about helping young swimmers build skill, confidence, self-esteem, and sportsmanship; and knows how to build team spirit and have fun!

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Passion, leadership, and administrative capability
  • Knowledge of four strokes, drills, and age-appropriate instruction techniques

Duties

Team Leadership 

  • Provide enthusiastic leadership to coaches and team members by work and example
  • Supervise coaches and swim instruction during swim practices starting in May and held daily through City Meet, Monday-Friday, 9-11am and evening practices Monday and Wednesday 
  • Supervise coaches and swim instruction during KST swim meets
  • Provide positive feedback to individual swimmers and the team
  • Create opportunities for team building organized by age group and for fun activities throughout the swim season
  • Recruit and retain new team members
  • Create a welcoming environment for swimmers of all skill levels and interests; report disciplinary issues to parents and work with parents to foster positive behavior and sportsmanship
  • Create a knowledge base regarding the abilities and interests of individual swimmers in your group(s) and support individual growth

Administration

  • Maintain the team roster, practice attendance records, daily practice plan, and performance evaluation systems
  • Learn, use, and train coaching staff in the use of Team Manager and Meet Manager software
  • Represent Kenilworth Swim Team at all league meetings
  • Communicate with parents, coaches, and Board on a regular basis through email and meetings and ensure that parents, coaches, and the Board are satisfied with the level of communication regarding KST activities 
  • Coordinate with the KCI Board’s Swim Team Parent Liaison in establishing and adequately communicating a parent volunteer schedule for meets
  • Fully prepare coaches and facilities for meets
    • Seeding
    • Competitive relay creation
    • Setting up umbrellas and timer chairs
    • Setting up clerk of course 
    • Placing caution tape around exposed area of the pool and diving boards
    • Placing lane ropes in the pool and placing starting blocks in the proper location
    • Monitoring the safety of swimmers during warm up
    • Parent volunteer orientation, placement, preparation, and support
  • Partner with the KCI Manager on communication, preparation, and cleanup after all home meets
  • Prepare an end-of-summer summary report to the KCI Board
  • Maintain the Kenilworth Swim Team Facebook page in compliance with the KCI Cell Phone Use Policy and KCI Social Media Policy

Wage Information

  • All wages are commensurate with experience and qualifications

Kenilworth Swim Team Assistant Coach (Senior, Junior)

Assistant Coaches lead group swim practice instruction and assist the Head Coach with meet preparation duties.  Ideal Assistant Coaches love swimming; are passionate about helping young swimmers build skill, confidence, self-esteem, and sportsmanship; and know how to build team spirit and have fun!

Requirements

  • Must be at least 15 years old
  • Passion, leadership, and enthusiasm 
  • Knowledge of four strokes, drills, and age-appropriate instruction techniques

Duties

  • Attendance and instruction at all swim practices held daily starting in May through City Meet, Monday-Friday, 9-11am, with approved absences by the Head Coach in certain circumstances.  Assistant Coaches may occasionally be asked to help coach afternoon practices on Monday and Wednesday afternoons
  • Attend and instruct during KST swim meets
